Abstract

Modern buildings are characterised by using of many different building materials in multifarious applications and combinations. Often new materials or new building components are applied or are designed to be used in buildings. Furthermore modern buildings are equipped with a multitude of devices for the thermal or comfort control. The high demands on the comfort requires special control strategies and particularly intelligent energy strategies. Each building is exposed to the real climate and using conditions. In the majority of cases a building has to be constructed in consideration of all constructive details, boundary and using conditions. This complexity requires a well-timed compilation of an energy concept. The basis are thermal calculations and simulations. These calculations of the thermal behaviour require the knowledge of the thermophysical parameters of all materials, building components and all boundary conditions. The paper describes some methods and measurements of building materials and building components in the lab on separate components or on buildings. The characteristic of dynamic boundary conditions will be shown for local climate conditions. The use of measurement values in calculations can be described for examples, glass facades and windows. Energy calculations show the effect of different influencing factors.
