Abstract

This paper presents the first results of a research that aims to identify the effects of thermal inertia on the thermal performance and energy efficiency of residential buildings in southeast area of Brazil. Methodological procedures that have been proposed and evaluated during the research are discussed. The evaluation includes buildings characterization, indoor and outdoor air temperature monitoring and analyses of results. The prelim inary results give indication that, for the semi-humid climate, typical of great part of Brazil, building systems with high thermal inertia provide more comfortable indoor conditions and low energy consumption.
