Abstract

One of the actual main tendency is the growing utilization of high performance concrete in civil construction. In front of advantages using them, like the larger structure durability, and the great numbers of articles and congresses involving the subject, it becames necessary the investigation of the effect to the incorporation of pozzolanic materials into manufactoring of this kind of concrete. Rice husk ash is one of those pozzolans, presenting satisfactory results, when produced under controlled conditions of temperature and time of residence and ground at the desired particle size distribution. Almost the totality of the rice husks burned at industrial level in Brazil and worldwide is without control therefore it becomes important to study the properties and characteristics of such material when substitued to cement. This research deals with the substitution, at differents levels, of cement by the rice husk ash obtained without temperature control in the manufactoring of high performance concrete. The results shows that adequate performance of concrete can be obtained with such supplementary material.
