Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of the stress and strain behavior of a concrete column subjected to rehabilitation and loaded by axial compression forces. The repair consisted of the substitution of the primary concrete of one side at the middle part of a rectangular section column by a concrete with different mechanical properties. The purpose of this analysis is to observe the influence of the repair on the path and on the values of the stresses and therefore to obtain useful information for the rehabilitation design. The structural conditions of the column were modelled using the Finite Element Method, specifically applying the ANSYS software. Non-linear physical behavior was imposed to the two different materials based on a constitutive equation extracted from the Concrete Structures Brazilian code. Two loading situations were considered to simulate the service and the ultimate limit states. Also some experimental results are presented as an illustration of the work that is going on the São Carlos Structural Laboratory.
