Abstract

This paper intends to present the first results obtained from daylight measurements in Brazilian territory. Data was obtained from a daylighting station settled up in Florianópolis, South Brazil, from January to December 2002. The station was settled up according the procedures established by the International Daylighting Measurement Programme, IDMP [1]. The station measures zenith luminance, horizontal diffuse and global and vertical global (north, south, east and west) illuminances, each five seconds and records mean data of one minute intervals. As an auxiliary tool, sky photographs are taken with a fish-eye lens every 15 minutes. This can be a helpful means to evaluate indexes used to classify sky conditions that are mathematically calculated. The Daylighting Measurement Station of Florianópolis, called EMIN Floripa, was settled up in the same space of an existing Solar Radiation Measurement Station so direct, global and diffuse irradiation data is also measured for the same intervals. The data obtained is being used to develop models for the characterization of typical illuminances as a function of sky types, time of year and frequency of occurrence and will serve as a basis for various studies that need the characterization of external daylighting availability such as internal and external daylight evaluation software, design tools, construction legislation and energy efficiency analysis.
