Abstract

As reported in the technical literature the kind of chemical and mineral admixture can influence on the fresh and hardened properties of the concretes and mainly on high-performance concretes (HPC), where great amounts of superplasticizers and cementitious materials are required. This paper presents the physical and mechanical properties of an experimental investigation of the effect of the use of different kinds of superplasticizers and mineral admixtures to produce an 80 MPa at 28 days highperformance concrete. Metakaolin and silica fume HPC are produced using naphthalene or polycarboxylate based superplasticizers (or mixture of them) as chemical admixture to lead the concrete mixtures to 100 ± 20 mm slump consistence. Physical and mechanical properties are determined. Compressive strength, modulus of rupture, elasticity modulus, Poisson’s ratio, air entraining, and density are determined. The results obtained using the test methods proceeded are compared to a better understanding of the influence of the every kind of chemical and mineral admixture on the studied concrete properties, intending on a HPC more sustainable, cheap and durable.
