Abstract

Research activities under development at BEST - VeLE - Politecnico di Milano, aim to individuate a possible way to elaborate design models for residential buildings characterized by a limited energy consumption for climatic contexts with summer cooling problems. The first phase of the research was about the state of the art analysis in Europe: that highlighted a well-defined trend in the direction of hyper-insulated preservative systems. The VeLE research project goal consists of the identification of installations and technological systems fit for climatic contexts with summer cooling problems. The aim of reach an extremely reduced energy needs, in a temperate climate, like the Italian one, have therefore to give importance to a punctual control of the summer overheating. What is interesting is the tendency to favour, the spontaneous building behaviour, carrying out enclosures extremely efficient, able to filtrate effectively climatic boundary conditions, and operating subsequently with plants only to refine internal climatic conditions. The successive phase was the definition of abstract models with whom carry out simulations, during both summer and winter, in the Mediterranean climate. This simulations allowed to correlate the different parameters and to evaluate the importance and the criticity.
