Abstract

Solar Decathlon focuses on energy: all of the methods in which we use energy in our daily lives—at work, at home, and at play. To compete in the competition, the teams must design and build homes that are powered exclusively by the sun. Teams will be judged on their ability to provide interior comfort in their houses by controlling light, temperature, humidity and airflow. The teams will also be judged on indoor environment and aesthetics qualities. This paper describes the design process and the application of design and research tools to achieve the goals of this team. The results show it is possible to design a house that maintains a steady, uniform, comfortable temperature (and humidity) throughout and to offer a healthy indoor environment in which to live.
