Abstract

Knowledge of wind heat transfer coefficient is required for estimation of upward losses from the outer surface of solar collectors/solar cookers. The wind heat transfer coefficient mainly depends upon wind speed. Due to considerable uncertainty in the value of hw, an on the spot measurement is desirable. Appropriate sensors are required for this purpose. It also becomes necessary to measure/suitably average wind speed which varies continuously over long, short and even very short time intervals (as wind is gusty in nature). Exposed blackened plate has been employed for determination of wind heat transfer coefficient in outdoor conditions. Outdoor experiments, for measurement of hw, have been conducted on rooftop of a building in built environment. Experimental results provide interesting and useful information for the wind heat transfer coefficient.
