Abstract

Nowadays a great amount of reinforced concrete structures have deterioration problems due to corrosion of the reinforcement, mainly due the action of chloride ions. A great amount of researchers is trying to develop new techniques for to model, with a maximum degree of accuracy, the service life of these structures. A main point in that process consists in to determine the variabilities in concrete characteristics and in surrounding environment in the structures. Thus, the reliability concept was used to foresee the project service life of structures when inserted in chloride-laden environments. Was made a experimental study for to determine the chloride diffusion coefficients for CP V ARI cement with 3 levels of silica fume (0%, 10% and 20%), where Monte Carlo's method was adopted for to determine the reliability index for each concrete type. It was admitted the 2 nd Fick's Law as limit state function for the reliability analysis, where the variability of parameters was established through an extensive bibliographical research. The results showed the importance of the accomplishment of an analysis that considers statistical aspects in service life prediction of reinforced concrete structures.
