Abstract

This is a Graduation Work of the University of Sao Paulo’s Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning. It proposes an intervention in the site of the old Guanabara Train Station of the Mogiana Company , in Campinas - a major city in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. The aim is to requalify and reintegrate the area in the urban environment, focusing on environmental issues. Promotes rehabilitation of the historic buildings and creates a landscape with contrasting organic forms in 100.000m 2 of elongated building structure, including public areas. The architectural design searches for the synthesis between technology and nature. Bioclimatic strategies (like the use of natural light and ventilation, collection and reuse of rain water, and incorporation of photovoltaic panels) were applied in order to achieve people’s comfort and energy efficiency. The buildings´ design and intervention are inspired by the plastic features of building materials, worked to take benefit from the mild climatic conditions. The main buildings are domus structures. The canopies and metallic structures highlight the contrast between old and new, at the same time that guarantee their spatial integration. The result is an innovative formal solution, which forms an important place in the city for education, communication and leisure.
