Abstract

The general purpose of this study is the development of methods to evaluate thermal performance of residential units, by studying the feasibility of the application of existing evaluation methods, and the verification of the suitability of the criteria and requirements employed in such methods. In order to reach the objectives, an experimental study on 5 construction systems applied to low income residential units was carried out in Londrina, State of Paraná. Such construction systems were subjected to the existing methods of evaluation of thermal performance; a study of the costs of each system was also carried out. The application of the evaluation methods employed a thermal simulation technique called COMFIE. The 5 construction systems vary in size from 20 to 50 m², and are monitored for one year and are currently being used by families. Partial results indicate that there is a difference between the data obtained through simulation and data obtained through monitoring, and also show that important parameters such as wall transmittance, adopted by studied methodologies, are not relevant for the thermal performance, according to the studies carried out and the results obtained from monitoring.
