Abstract

An already proposed methodology for defining a building climatic zoning according to criterion of achieving inside comfort with minimum energy requirements and for different seasons of the year has been applied to the case of Chile, a country with cold, temperate and hot-dry climates. The application of the methodology led to the conclusion that in a vast geographical zone no energy consumption would be needed to reach inside comfort in dwellings throughout the year. This zone is located in the north of the country. For central and southern Chile, four different zones were defined according to heat demand to achieve comfort. In the case of summer period, no artificial cooling for achieving inside ambient comfort would be needed for residential buildings throughout the country.
