Abstract

The use of daylighting in buildings is a valid alternative to reach visual comfort inside. In commercial buildings, e.g. shopping centers, many activities are performed inside, in common spaces of circulation, and for this reason daylight has a specific significance. This article presents some alternatives tested with simulations, utilizing different design solutions and components, aiming to improve the existing situation in terms of visual comfort in a case study building. The parameters utilized to evaluate the solutions are the illuminance and luminance ratios and daylight glare index. Some components like light-shelves, louvers and fin, and a different skylight design are tested and their effects in the light distribution, modeling of objects and glare reduction are analyzed.
