Resumo

Nesta comunicação propõe-se a realização de um inventário parcial sobre a arquitetura encontrada no campus central da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte. Busca-se sublinhar para as edificações examinadas, além de suas características formais exteriores, os modos de implantação no lote e as suas articulações e desarticulações com o entorno. Constata-se que grande parte dessas obras carece de um projeto, no sentido daquele esforço intelectual que distingue o projeto da simples representação gráfica. Por isso, são obras sem referência histórica e sem imaginação criadora; e por isso, embora utilizáveis, não são belas. Elas apresentam as marcas do autoritarismo, da improvisação e da imprevidência. São construções erguidas sem um plano previamente elaborado e sem obedecer a regras previamente estabelecidas. O resultado deste procedimento tem sido a construção de um campus com um desenho confuso, com um sistema viário precário e insuficiente e com uma arquitetura empobrecida e feia. Essas obras desconsideram o fato de que a construção de um prédio produz novos fluxos de pessoas e de veículos, demandando a construção de mais vias, passeios, estacionamentos e de outras obras de infra-estrutura. Não observam a necessária articulação e balanceamento entre área construída e áreas livres e verdes. E, salvo as exceções, vêm sendo construídas sem a expressão de um caráter plástico e estético que as eleve à condição de arquitetura.

Abstract

This communication proposes itself to realize a partial inventory of the architecture found in the central campus of the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte-UFRN. It tries to emphasize, for the examined constructions, not just its exterior formal characteristics, but also the ways of implantation in the lot and its joints and disarticulations with the neighbourhood. It is known that great part of these workmanships lacks of a project, in the meaning of that intellectual effort that distinguishes the project from the simple graphical representation. That´s why, they are buildings without historical reference and creative imagination; and therefore, even being usable, are not beautiful.They present the marks of the authoritarianism, the improvisation and the improvidence. Are constructions raised without a previously elaborated plan and transgressing the previously established rules. The result of this conduct has been the construction of a campus with a confused drawing, a precarious and insufficient road system and with a poor and ugly architecture. These workmanships disrespect the fact of the construction of a building produces new flows of people and vehicles, demanding the construction of more ways, paviments, car parkings and others infrastructure workmanships. They do not observe the necessary joint and balancing between constructed area and free or green areas. And, in the majority of the cases, have being constructed without the expression of a plastic and aesthetic character that raises them to the architecture condition.
