Abstract

This paper presents a study of the availability and characteristics of daylight in Buenos Aires, together with an analysis of data from two years of measurements of global and diffuse illuminance. A survey of daylight conditions in existing buildings in Buenos Aires was carried out, including buildings from the beginning of the 20 th century, as these incorporate a number of daylight and low energy techniques in projects that were designed before air conditioning was introduced. The conclusions of the paper show the need for regional solutions to the problems of daylighting in different geographical regions with varying sky conditions; in the same way that thermal comfort requires different bioclimatic strategies in different climatic regions.
