Abstract

In northwest Mexico the climate conditions are extreme, because it is a desert zone. Particularly in these cases,it is necessary to keep special attention in thermal conscious design of buildings,to provide adequate comfort conditions without excessive energy costs of artificial cooling. Due to federal government programs,in the University of Sonora,as well as in other educational buildings in Hermosillo City,a typical building model is used, that has been designed in the same way for the whole Mexican territory. This building prototype is constructed almost without modifications for a great diversity of climates. We have monitored the indoor thermal conditions in those buildings, located in Hermosillo. The climate there is warm and dry. The present work shows a preliminary thermal evaluation for these buildings.Based in previous studies regarding energetic consumptions on them, using thermal measurement data and a computing program,in this work we present a comparative evaluation of their thermal behavior. Selected case studies have been analyzed and evaluated, under real occupancy conditions,in order to obtain possible thermal design guidelines to improve the energetic behavior of this type of educational buildings.
