Abstract

Thinking over development brings about the historical analysis of architecture. In this paper, the link between the Mexican Pre-Columbian architecture and its geographical and environmental conditions is carefully examined, focusing specially on the relationship with climate, location and orientation. In Pre-Columbian Mexico, as well as in the present, two architectures coexisted. On the one hand, the wealthy and cultured urban, oriented to the permanent and sumptuary. On the other hand, the rural one, more spontaneous and simple; in some way ephemeral and with a high degree of environmental integration. The climate determined the protection requirement from excessive radiation, heat, cold, rainfall, un-desired winds, flooding and other phenomena of nature. The place also determined the resources and materials to be used. As a result, the typical and regional characteristics arise from the location and climate
