Abstract

TIA Competition - Sustainable building for the 2000 is the sixth architectural ideas competition promoted by the European Commission (Directorate General XVII – Energy). ABITA (University of Florence - Italy) with ETA-Florence (Italy) and Oxford Brookes University (UK) launched this competition in order to stimulate new ideas in relation to sustainable design. The competition was a single stage ideas competition open to all European students of architecture and engineering. The competition involved students and tutors and encouraged their application in the field of sustainability. A competition among schools of architecture and engineering in the European Union seemed also an appropriate way to encourage institutions to be more aware of the importance of this rapidly developing field. A primary aim of the Competition was educational: learn by doing projects; so, it will promote an understanding of sustainable design by providing students with direct involvement for the advancement of their future professional practice
