Abstract

The use of rice husk ash has been proved to enhance the strength and durability of high performance cement and concrete. The control of the combustion conditions allows to obtain amorphous silica in the ash. In several researches the effect of combustion parameters on the pozzolanic activity has been examined. In this study, an experimental program based on compressive strength and water absorption was carried out on concrete specimens with two types of rice husk ash produced by controlled incineration and uncontrolled incineration. The variables investigated were the water/cementitious materials ratio (0.4, 0.6 and 0.8), the age (7 and 28 days) and the rice husk ash content (10%, 25%, and 50%). The results show that, as a general pattern, water/cementitious materials ratio and replacement level of RHA had significant influence on the compressive strength and water absorption of concrete.
