Abstract

The use of polymers in concrete has the objective of improving some properties due to the reduction of porosity. Therefore, this research deals with the influence of SBR (Styrene Butadiene Rubber) and acrylic polymers (2%, 6% and 10%), on the compressive strength, modulus of elasticity, absorption, permeability and resistance to reinforcement corrosion of concrete. The compressive strength was assessed on cylinders at 7, 28 and 91 days. The air permeability was measured on prismatic samples according to the Figg’s method. For evaluation of the resistance to the reinforcement corrosion, accelerated tests of chloride diffusion were carried out on prismatic specimen, using electro-chemistry techniques of corrosion potential and polarization resistance to monitor the behavior of reinforcement. Measurements of ohmic resistance were used to monitor the dielectric conditions of concrete. The results show that depending on the type and proportion of polymer added, concrete performance may be different. Concrete containing SBR (Styrene Butadiene Rubber) polymer developed better properties than concrete with acrylic polymer.
