Abstract

Due to the nature of construction industry and being project based, it is extremely depended on workers. Materials using, project time and quality of processes is deeply related to workers ability, experience and knowledge. Despite existing regulations most of the structures don’t have suitable detailed executions in both design and construction level. The steel structure is a considerable part of the construction and most of its problems relate to different kinds of faults and weaknesses in connections and one of the common kinds of connections is weld connection, so welding becomes so significant in building executions. On the other hand the welder performance has a great effect on weld quality so by increasing the welder skills and knowledge, the faults in weld connections and consequent hazards can be reduced but it takes a long period of time and experiment for an amateur welder to become a professional one. Knowledge Management (KM) ability facilitates gaining information and skills, increasing welder’s proficiency, quality of welds, and consequently steel structure safety. In this research By using APQC’s KM maturity model, Delphi technique and statistical analysis main categories including “Welding Technique”, “Electrode Properties”, “Educational Condition”, “Electricity and Amperage Condition”,” Environment Condition”, “Welder Hand Movement” and “Human or Other Reason” was obtained that comprise 22 factor related to welder performance. At last it’s recommended to develop KM strategies in construction firms across these factors.
