Abstract

This work describes a simplified natural ventilation evaluation method integrated to a CADD (Computer Aided Design and Drafting) program, which visually represents the internal air flow in a given room on the floor plan drawing. This tool was built based on the studies by Baruch Givoni [7] for square rooms, with variations of the dimensions of the openings. The application requires in the first place a CAD drawing of a room and data pertaining to the project (city, month, north orientation in relation to the openings, area of the wall on which the opening will be located), to the user (type of garment and activity to be conducted in the room) and to the type of opening (size and location). Results are presented in color and percentage points of the internal air flow, indicating its adequacy for comfort of a given place and month directly on the drawing. It is thus possible to analyze the room during the design stage, directly on the floor plan, optimizing the natural ventilation, in a simple and straightforward manner using present day design tools.
