Abstract

The paper presents the development of one heliodon for solar radiation studies. The heliodon is for teaching and research purposes.Due radiation variability both daily and seasonal, teachers are constantly trying to induce considerations about the solar geometry and the incidence of solar radiation on buildings. These considerations should be taken in the initial stages of the decision making process about design strategies.Traditionally the study of solar geometry in architecture is introduced through the study of solar charts or heliodons.Solar charts and heliodons for solar radiation evaluation are limited.A profound understanding of solar geometry require a dynamic instrument to allow identification and qualification of the effects of the sun impinging on a building. The general idea of the instrument is to combine the computer technology by associating a data base with a moving sistem with lamps to emulate the solar movement. The paper describes the way the mechanics of the instrument will work.
