Abstract

Nowadays there are several efforts in define embodied energy of buildingscomponents and materials mainly in developing countries, where there is not enoughinformation available. This data shall be in accordance with local building technology thereforestudies of local alternatives are important. This work presents results of embodied energy fortwo solutions of green roofing in southern Brazil comparatively to conventional roofing inceramic tiles with thermal insulation. The method considers production of main inputs, roadtransport from point of sale to the site of construction, workmanship transport. The data wereobtained by surveys, interviews with owners and scientific literature. Materials, distances oftransport were quantified. The main contribution for embodied energy in analyzed green roofingis due to waterproofing layers. Despite of that, embodied energy of green roofing is smaller thanof studied conventional roofing.
