Abstract

Nowadays, Concrete Blockwork is one of the most important engineering materials available for housing building construction in Brazil. This notorious position was achieved not only for its economics advantages but also for a high constructibility potential. All the advantages presented by the construction methods that use Concrete Blockwork, however, have been facing very serious problems, mainly due to the gap that still exists between the daily practice at buildings sites and appropriate technological development to our conditions. Based on this considerations the Escola Politécnica da Universidade de São Paulo decided to investigated and develop a new building construction process through the rationalized use of Non Reinforced Concrete Blockwork. The development was sponsored by privates companies and aimed to be used in the construction of eight high story buildings. In order to fulfill the new requirements two very important step were considered: the design and manufacturing of innovative concrete units. This work evaluates the influence of some block production variables in the compressive strength of units, as a part of the whole research.
