Abstract

In this paper the authors present the results obtained from the experimentation carried out on a school building where the heating system is solar-assisted using solar air collectors. The complex occupancy profile of the school has also been considered. After a schematic summary of the building, the authors describe the testing procedure and present the results, comparing the measured behaviour of the buildings and systems with that expected. The case study, also outlines how diagnostics can predict the behaviour of the building and its parts during pre-diagnosis and diagnosis phases. As it will be noticed further on, many malfunctions of the investigated building have been detected by using low-cost instrumentation in a short-period monitoring and small meaningful number of parameters measured. Based of these experiences, aspects of the importance of shortperiod thermal investigation in buildings are discussed.
