Abstract

Set up of buried pipe cooling systems needs careful dimensioning, based on good understanding of relevant and irrelevant parameters, as well as sound energetic analysis. Basing on a validated numerical simulation model, we establish a coherent way to account for ground inertial cooling, leading to an instructive comparison with the alternative direct cooling technique. Focusing on a particular geometry, the resulting potential is analysed for two different climates, suggesting a universal signature of daily cooling power, the discrepancy between seasonal potentials merly resulting from specific annual dynamic.
