Abstract

There are many environments in which lateral windows do not supply enough daylight, due to the obstruction caused by high buildings, inadequate solar orientation or deep rooms. The use of artificial lighting and increasing energy consumption are some of the biggest concerns of mankind today and daylighting has become again an important issue in architectural design. This paper brings some proposal of innovative elements to be used for increasing daylight admission in high building density conditions. The results obtained by computer simulation denote that there are forms to optimize the admission of the daylight with a combination of architectural forms and surface specification.
