Abstract

Vecchia conducted extensive measurements of indoor temperatures in two occupied houses, each one with four rooms (including a kitchen), in Descalvado, Brazil. A detailed description of the houses, the experimental procedure and the measured daily patterns of the indoor and outdoor temperatures are reported in another paper in this Conference (Vecchia and Givoni). This paper describes a procedure of developing formulas, predicting the daily indoor maximum, average and minimum temperatures of this type of the occupied houses. The formulas were developed on the basis of data collected in September 2001 and was checked and finalized by applying the formulas to data collected in October. Then the formulas were validated by comparison to data collected in November 2001.The formulas are applicable only to the houses similar to those monitored in Decalvado. It has been found that the daily indoors maximum, average and minimum temperatures can be predicted on the basis of the outdoors daily average temperatures. The prediction of the indoor maxima can be improved slightly by incorporating daily averages of solar radiation in the formula. The prediction of the indoor minima can be improved slightly by incorporating daily diurnal swings in the formula.
