Abstract

Earth-to-air heat exchangers use the ground as heat source or heat sink by heating or cooling an air stream flowing inside buried pipes. This paper analyzes the transient thermal behavior of two buried pipe systems in educational buildings of Argentina: offices and labs for professors and researchers of Universidad Nacional de La Pampa and a school for Basic General Education in Catriló, province of La Pampa. The ducts were measured over one week and every 15 minutes. The monitored results were compared with simulations performed with SIMEDIF, a multiroom building simulation program developed at INENCO, that provides a one-dimensional transient model to calculate the hourly outlet duct temperature.
