Abstract

The modern architecture is characterised by using of glass facades and large windows. The application of glass facades and windows can effect remarkable heat and energy fluxes. Depending on the solar irradiation the solar gains can cause glare as well as temporary and local overheating of the rooms. To avoid these effects the windows have to be shaded. At this an intelligent control of the shading device can save energy. The most comfortable control of the transmittance is enabled by electrochromics. The transmittance can be adjusted on the time dependent requirements. The paper presents results of energy and heat flux calculations and estimations of the thermal comfort in rooms with controlled electrochromic windows. Calculations of the thermal behaviour of rooms show the influence of different using and boundary conditions.
