Abstract

This paper presents the results of a study undertaken to explore the effectiveness of night ventilation for providing thermal comfort in a non-domestic building in Delhi for 3 selected months of the year. The ventilation is assisted by a wind tower, which ensures both stack and wind effects, to maintain optimum pressure gradients. The analysis uses calculation methods and computer modelling techniques to assess the thermal performance of the strategy. The results show that due to the relatively high night temperatures as well as substantial daytime heat gains, night cooling alone, although beneficial, cannot provide comfort in the selected months and would need to be combined with other cooling strategies.
