Abstract

The rapidly expanding hospitality industry encompasses a wide variety of subsectors, with conference facilities becoming a niche sector of growing importance. An ever larger number of conference•type events and educational programs are offered today on a highly competitive local and global market. This has brought about new business opportunities, at the same time as it is continuously generating new and more serious environmental impacts. Businesses are trying to attract customers by offering an ever- increasing number of energy - and resource - intensive services, products and entertainment, all of which is exacerbating environmental loads. Despite a growing environmental interest and consciousness among customers and businesses, successful examples of facilities where sound environmental practice is receiving the same level of attention as the pursuit of economic returns are still few and far between. It is therefore important to bring to the attention of the public examples of cases where traditional economic/business interests have been successfully combined with a high level of environmental responsibility. It is the objective of this paper to present the Sanga•Saby Courses CONFERENCES facility as an example where this integration has been pursued and achieved successfully.
